Our Fund Raiser for Homeless Veterans. In February of 2016 the Naples Civil Air Patrol Senior Squadron and The Museum of Military Memorabilia teamed up for it’s 2nd Annual “USO Show”, to raise money for Homeless Veterans. It was held in the Hertz Hanger, which is the state of the art hanger where the Hertz rental car company keeps it’s corporate jets. It is a maintenance facility for these very expensive jets. They however allow non profit functions to be held there as a way to give back to their community. It is there that we chose for our USO Show fundraiser. The event was held to help wounded and or homeless Vets.
This years event was a Bob Hope USO Show like the ones he put on in Vietnam. to give the men who were stuck over there a piece of American entertainment.
We had a gourmet style food line with the same type metal platters they used in Vietnam Chow Lines. But ours was catered with much better food. We had a top shelf liquor bar and great entertainment from a Bob Hope reenactor who entertained the crowd for about an hour.
We had silent auctions and live auctions, complete with a section set up with real military articles from the Vietnam war courtesy of The Museum of Military Memorabilia, also located in the Naples Airport Commercial Terminal. ( open 7 days a week).
Outside we had vehicles and two military planes that were in town for a display at the Naples Airport. Yes it was a Heck of a night.
Our Fund Raiser for Homeless Veterans managed to raise $10,660 for the Homeless Veterans in SWFL. which all went to The Del Webb Naples Veterans Club.

Part 2 of Our Fund Raiser for Homeless Veterans
Well we all gathered in the Oasis Country Club in Ave Maria, to meet and greet and assemble the first 1oo care packages for the homeless veterans living in South West Florida. The Museum of Military Memorabilia sent Their President Robert McDonald, Dave Collins and his wife Deborah Collins.
There were many older retired Veterans there,There was an Army Veteran that was 98, he was there to lend his support as were all these members of the Del Webb Veterans Club, who are the ones that originated the idea of giving these care boxes to the homeless Veterans. The Military Veterans have a Motto, That is “Never leave a brother behind”, and they are keeping that pledge. albeit, this is but one Group of fine Americans caring for their fellow Vets who’s to say it can’t spread, it should spread like wildfire just think of all the Country Clubs in South west Fl. alone that could join in and help these Veterans, Business’s could join in with support or even donated items to go to these Veterans who for what every reason do need this help. They are out there. We had a room full of School children writing wonderful letters to these Veterans, sending them well wishes and Thank You’s.
We met one retired Special Forces Airborne Veteran from Vietnam who was a career man retired as a Major, who kept Dave and Bob completely immersed in Vietnam Experiences and will be the subject of an upcoming post, what an exciting life this man has had. More on that coming in another post. He was there with his wonderful wife who was helping with the boxes and telling us stories of his days as an advisor in Vietnam. He was the real deal.
The Del Webb Veterans Club were assisted by the V.A. at Bay Pines, in St Petersburg Fl. The V.A. is responsible for distributing the care packages as they know where all these Heroes are located and are best suited for that task. Our Goal,is to help 100 homeless veterans by Memorial Day, 100 by the 4th of July and another 100 by Veterans Day. We will continue this cycle as contributions continue to come in. We know that with your help we can meet and exceed this goal.

The money was raised at the USO Show Our Fund Raiser for Homeless Veterans that was held by The Museum of Military Memorabilia with the Naples Senior Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, both located at Naples Airport Commercial Terminal. That is where the Museum of Military Memorabilia has two Museums. One of the rooms is dedicated to WW2 Aviation and the other is Dedicated to all other branches and conflicts since. I invite you to come see us at Naples Airport 500 terminal rd Naples Fl. 34110 ( and we are looking for Docents, )
We will to be developing a website to make it easier to get the word out and tell the story to get more people involved, these Veterans need help and we can’t just forget about their sacrifices. Remember ” No Man Left Behind” it’s what separates The American Spirit from the rest of the world, We Take Care of our own. Thank You in Advance
I have inserted some pictures from that afternoon, and the short video clip from Wink News reporting the story, and you can always donate to this fund as they plan on doing this in the future.
